Out of Artness into Light!

Fyaak. It’s been a holy week in the studio, writing and recording… we were in the Zu in Lewes, by the riverside, a big broad room full of sofas and parachutes hanging. It was our home and workplace, the music factory where we slept and laughed… lots of laughter. While next door, the very real factory (Cutform) churned out noises from morning til 4.30pm, making recording during the day impossible. We’ll just adjust our body clocks then, said we. And
the nights became our domain. Coming out to smoke by the river at 3am, watching the Tesco night workers move around their offices in the striplighting, on the other bank. The tracks are sounding mad, beautiful… an apt reflection of the week that was. Doors crashing shut, violins, kids singing outside, kora, bells and silver balls, me twatting a skip… all these feature on the songs. I need a few days off to regroup the armies of crazies in my head, and then we’ll get to work on the finishings…. I plan to have the album finished by August, and there’ll be a proper launch in the autumn. Working title? ‘Engurland (City Shanties)’.
